The key to a flawless tan

The key to a flawless tan

If you're prepping for a spray tan, there are a few things you need to know.

The first question I always get asked is: "How long will the tan last?" The answer is… it depends. The better your skin is prepped, the longer the tan will last and the more evenly it will fade. If you prep for your skin correctly (that means moisturising and exfoliating in the lead up to the tan), your skin will love you for it.

A lot of people think that by exfoliating once and moisturising a couple of days in the lead up to the tan that they've done enough to prep—but that's not really going to get people the results they desire! It's important to prep your skin for a few weeks in the lead up to the tan. That means exfoliating regularly to ensure all the dead skin is removed and moisturising.

Preparing for a tan is all about looking after your skin. It's the largest organ in the body and we only have one skin! Look after it and slip slop slap every day x

The most important thing to avoid in the lead up to a tan is sun exposure. I can't tell you how many times a client has come to me to fix up their tan lines only to be disappointed with the results. If your skin has been damaged from the sun; peeling/burnt/all of the above then the tan will simply not have that flawless look and may have a jagged edge to it where the damage has occurred.

If you're worried about tanning, it's best practice to cover up as much as possible with long sleeves, pants and hats when out in the sun. And if you're going to be outside during peak hours (11am-3pm) then make sure you apply SPF 30+ every 2 hours!
